We know that everywhere in this world, the poorest people have more children. This is a very important question that more children make people poor? Or poor people make more children?
Overpopulation and poverty are considered to be interlinked with each other. Regions that are experiencing increased poverty and population growth are considered as least developing countries. In many regions of the world, in the presence of both poverty and overpopulation the ability to reach a sustainable development is seen to be difficult. I strongly agree with the opinion that overpopulation is one of the main causes of poverty in many countries, particularly in the least developing countries.
poverty
Poverty is described as the state in which there is no enough income or possessions for the basic needs of a person. Poverty includes economic, social, or political elements. Poverty is the inabilities of an individual to take participate in his society due to a lack of resources. In Africa, poverty is known to be fast population growth and less agricultural yields. Poverty is not only limited to rural areas. People in urban areas also face poverty due to unemployment as there is more competition in cities. In our society, poverty is said to be a major problem. It is one of the hottest topics in the world. UN set the first goal to eradicate hunger and poverty from the world.
population growth:
Population growth increased when there is a higher birth rate than the death rate. When the resource becomes unsustainable due to population growth it is termed as overpopulation. There is a general concept that overpopulation is the key factor in the least developing countries.
poverty and overpopulation:
UN estimates the population of
approximately 48 poor countries in the world will be double in 2050. In 2010
there is a population of 850 million and it will increase to 1.7 billion in
2050. More than 40 percent population of the world is categorized as extremely
poor and is living in just two countries by 2050, Nigeria, and Congo. According
to UNESCO (2019), poverty along with lack of education leads to overpopulation
and higher birth rates. Although the population is not increasing in all regions
of the world equally fast, most of the regions are affected by population
explosion. There is more population on the planet than before, but there is a
linear increase in the world population from the last century.
According to the UN Population Fund 2017
“When there is rapid population growth in countries, it disturbs the economic development, countries have to face difficulties in invest in capital needs of human being and that results to stop further economic growth. This issue is specifically facing by least developing countries, most of which are facing doubling or tripling of the population by 2050.”
Poverty Rates Drop, Birth Rates Follow
Population trends and dynamics can
largely affect sustainable development and poverty reduction. In America, the birth
rate is steadily declined since 1989, through poverty reduction (as poverty
reduced from 62% to 51% from 1989 to 2006). Chances of a girl or woman being
pregnant reduced by 7.3% if she has educated an additional year after primary
schooling.
Poverty is influenced by population dynamics. It includes population growth and rural-urban distribution. All of these issues can initiate critical impacts on the developmental prospects of a country. Poverty also disturbs the prospectus for raising the living standards of poor people. A country needs to invest in better health, individual security, maintain reproductive health, and security for declining mortality but poverty obstructs all these basic needs.
Reproductive health and poverty reduction
Population dynamics can be affected
through fertility reduction by accessing reproductive and sexual health that
includes family planning. It improved reproductive health by minimizing infant
or maternal mortality. It helps individuals or specifically women to come out
from poverty.
When couples do family planning, when and whether to have children, they can raise living standards, and with fewer children, they can break out from poverty. Women become unable to complete their studies and they can help men to increase earning. This will strengthen the economy and well-being of their families. As a result, it contributes to the development of a country and the overall economy of the country increased and it can overcome poverty easily.
power of young people
When there are an increased young population and less mortality rate, then a country may face difficulties in providing education and health facilities. There may be danger of population explosion as mostly young people and present which have a higher reproductive rate. Therefore family planning plays an important role in this process as the youth population may cause rapid population growth until fertility decrease. Doubling of the population means, there would be occurring an addition of 15 million persons per year. Doubling, or even tripling population growth is mostly like to occur in the least developing countries. This situation would cause poverty, unemployment, and poor health condition in these least developing countries.
Overpopulation causes environmental degradation
Overpopulation is polluting the environment
that indirectly leads to poverty. Production of Industries, automobiles,
construction materials is increasing due to overpopulation and fossil fuels are
being used for this purpose. There is a need to fulfill the basic requirements
of every person, therefore there is an increase of deforestation and increasing
land for agriculture production to provide food to people. These factors are
polluting our environment. Global warming is also one of the basic
environmental issues of the world that is increasing due to overpopulation.
Pollution causes many diseases that lead to poverty. Pollution is indirectly affecting the
economic power of a country. Every country makes conservation for protecting the
environment and it takes a lot of money, so the economy of a country also
affected by pollution.
Overpopulation is affecting the
economical growth of a country and many least developing countries are leading
to poverty. Pollution is increasing day by day due to overpopulation, which is
causing many diseases and forcing the land into the lesser quality and lesser
reproductive margins. . Government has to invest in the health of peoples that
lowers the economical growth of a country.
There is a need to be set policies
that establish sustainable development in a country. It will help to preserve
the resources for the future generation.
Hence concluded that:
LESS OVERPOPULATION = LESS POVERTY
